Apprentice locksmith since the age of 13, Jean-Michel Diki-Paré has always loved experimenting, tinkering on several diverse materials. With the new millenium starting, the artist and the craftsman become one. His creations are innovative, surprising, sometimes even impressive, but always finely executed in a "noble metal": stainless steel.
For the 123rd edition of the "Salon des Artistes lorrains", seven of his sculptures are exhibited; human figures, animals, chimeric structures combining music with animals as well as everyday life objects with human world. It is amazing to discover how these sculptures, though being made of the same metal, are so unique. "I am not interested in copying: innovation and renovation are the key factors". With this approach, Jean-Michel Diki-Paré manages to materialize his dreams through new creations.
Awarded in 2015 at the same exhibition (Salon des artistes lorrains), here he comes again this year. "This is a superb exhibition I have been doing for a few years. For me, it is a great opportunity to gather a large number of sculptures". Actually, several of the sculptures exhibited at the show have already been acquired by private individuals. When people were asked about the reasons that pushed them to buy these famous sculptures in stainless steel, "great" and "coup de coeur" were the words that stand out the most. In 2009 a couple of purchasers discovered Jean-Michel Diki-Paré's chimeric sculptures while attending one of his exhibition taking place on the artist's barge. At that time, the sculpture they acquired did not exist yet, but "La Parisienne" was already one of their favorite works. Eventually, at Vittel exhibition, they fell in love with that art work (below).
The artist's inspiration comes from "everyday life". What we detect in his sculptures is not just one, but multiple subjects overlapping one another. But we cannot talk about Jean-Michel Diki-Paré's art without dealing with stainless steel.
Stainless steel is a steel alloy little affected by corrosion. It is not commonly used by sculptors. Compared to other metal materials, stainless steel has some special properties to be taken into account when shaping sculptures (significant reactions to high temperatures, poor conductors...). Yet, the peculiarity of this hard metal and the need to shape it from A to Z are features that have bewitched Jean-Michel Diki-Paré. He succeeded in taming stainless steel to mold these magnificent creations.
Finally he claims: "Nothing is unfeasible with good will and strength".
